About this program

What this grant supports

Grants that help dogs in need of professional training and rehabilitation reach it, when cost or circumstance would otherwise stand in the way.

Unresolved behavior problems are a common, well-documented reason dogs lose their homes, and a grant that funds professional help early can change that outcome for one dog and one family.

This program is for dogs and families facing behavior, safety, placement, or recovery challenges who need access to structured professional support and face a real financial or situational barrier.

Depending on what a case needs, funding can go toward safety planning, structured behavior support, family education, medical coordination, environmental changes at home, placement support, or the long-term follow-through that keeps progress from slipping.

A referral can come directly from the family living with the situation, or from a trainer, veterinarian, or shelter that spots it first. Referring on someone else's behalf is welcome and does not require the family to make first contact.

No single person decides a case alone. A Foundation program lead reviews every referral first; cases that need more funding or more coordinated services bring in additional reviewers, and the largest awards include the Foundation's board as a final layer of oversight. Specific dollar thresholds for each tier are not published.

In practice, a case moves from referral, to a review conversation with Foundation staff and any outside professionals involved, to a documented decision, and finally into the case plan, coordinated services, and follow-up reporting that continue after the decision is made.

Eligibility

Reviewers weigh eligibility, clarity of need, readiness, expected benefit, budget, safety, and reporting readiness. An eligibility check returns "likely fit," "not eligible," or "staff review needed," never a final decision, and no single factor guarantees an award.
